Canon EOS R6 Mark II FTP upload setup

Send photos from the Canon EOS R6 Mark II over Wi-Fi as you shoot, encrypted over SFTP. Every setting, screen by screen, as on the camera with firmware 1.7.0.

SFTP, port 2022

Firmware

Before you start

  • An FDD Transfers project with this camera added. The app gives the camera its own user name and password.
  • Wi-Fi on set, or your phone’s hotspot.
  • Firmware 1.7.0 or later (May 2026). Check it in MENU → Setup tab (wrench) → Firmware. Download from Canon. It fixes FTP and SFTP transfer errors.

On each camera screen, the highlighted item is the one to choose.

01 Join the Wi-Fi

  1. Press MENU, open the wireless tab, go to page 2, and choose Transfer images to FTP server.

  2. Choose Add a device to connect to. If it asks to turn Wi-Fi on, choose OK.

  3. Setting method: choose Configure online, then OK.

  4. Select a network: pick your Wi-Fi, or your phone’s hotspot.

Listed twice (e.g. 36ch and 1ch)? 36ch or higher is the faster 5 GHz band, best near the router or phone; 1ch to 13ch reaches further. Pick the higher one, and the lower one if it keeps dropping. A phone hotspot shows once: just pick it.

  5. Select the password box and press SET.

  6. Type the Wi-Fi password, then press MENU to finish.

  7. Choose OK.

  8. IP address setting (IPv4): choose Auto setting, then OK.

  9. Use TCP/IPv6: choose Disable, then OK.

    Our server uses IPv4 only.

On set without Wi-Fi? Turn on your phone’s hotspot and join that. Photos are small; full-size clips use a lot of data.

02 Connect to our server

  1. FTP mode: choose SFTP, then OK.

SFTP is encrypted and needs no certificate. It needs firmware 1.7.0 or later: older firmware stalls while sending.

  2. Choose Address setting, enter this address, and press MENU.

    ftp.filmdistrictdubai.com

Lowercase only. No full stop at the end. If the camera shows “No response from DNS server”, enter the backup address shown in the app instead. An address doesn’t switch servers by itself.

  3. Choose Port number setting, change it to this, and press MENU. Then choose OK.

    02022
  4. User name: select the box and press SET.

  5. Type this user name, then press MENU. Delete anything already in the box first.

  6. Choose OK.

  7. Password: select the box, press SET, type this password, then press MENU.

    Shown in the app

The counter at the top right should read 08/32. If not, a character is missing or extra.

  8. Choose OK.

  9. Target folder: choose Root folder, then OK.

The app decides which project and folder files go to.

  10. “Trust server and connect?”: choose OK.

Asked once, the first time it meets our server. The connection is encrypted either way.

  11. It says Busy… Please wait for a few seconds.

  12. Connected to FTP server: choose OK.

A number like Err 45 instead? That’s a wrong login name or password, or the camera isn’t assigned to a project right now.

03 Photos send themselves

  1. In Transfer images to FTP server → FTP transfer settings: set Automatic transfer to Enable and Power saving to Disable.

Every photo you take now sends by itself. Power saving off keeps the camera connected between shots. Keep the stills/movie switch on stills: in movie mode sending stops, even partway through a photo, and the camera waits until you switch back.

  2. Optional, to send faster: in Images to transfer, set Shooting RAW+JPEG to JPEG only. The RAW files stay on the card.

Video: the easier way, the card

This camera can’t send video while it records, and it can’t make proxies, so clips go full size. For anything more than a short clip, the card is much quicker.

  1. After the shoot (or a break), take the card out and put it in your computer’s card reader.

  2. Open the project here, then the camera’s folder (e.g. Cam A).

  3. Drag the clips from the card’s DCIM folder onto the page.

Video: or send clips from the camera

  1. Stop recording, and set the stills/movie switch to stills: sending pauses in movie mode.

  2. In Transfer images to FTP server, choose Image sel./transfer. Choose Sel.Image for one clip or Range for several, pick the clips, then choose Transfer.
